One of the biggest event which is held during spring in Yokohama is Yokohama Street Performance. Noge area in Yokohama is a popular place for street performance and “Noge Daidogei (Street Performance)” is held on a regular basis. Yokohama Street Performance is an event derived from this event. Yokohama Street Performance celebrate 30 times. 300 performers per day do street performance just like Pantomime, Juggling, and Balloon art, magic. Visitors will be more than a million for two days. Yokohama Street Performance is an annual festival where street performances are held at various places in Yokohama such as Isezaki-cho, Minato Mirai 21 area. Especially at Minato Mirai 21 area is popular because you can enjoy street performance and Yokohama bay.

2. Shōnan-sai (Southern beach festival)

Shōnan-sai is a festival which is held at Southern beach chigasaki. The purpose of this festival is to enjoy together as citizens and participate. This festival started in 1994 and this year is the anniversary for the 25th time.
The theme of this festival is “Live together sea and people”. So many activities are related to the sea. Beach soccer is a soccer played on the sand, team members of 5. You can feel differences between grass and sand. Related prize also nice. Paddling contest is a paddle back and forth till popular rock reef, Eboshi-iwa to compete for speed. In addition, more than 50 eating and drinking stalls are open in Shonan stand village.

3.Kamakura Festival

Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine is located the end of Komachi-dori(street) from Kamakura Station. The main spot of spring event, Kamakura Festival since 1959. Kamakura is an old historical town just like Kyoto, Kanazawa. By the 12th Century, Kamakura had developed into a center of Japanese politics and culture. So you can find many things related to the warlord Minamoto-no-Yoritomo or The Hōjō clan. The shizuka no mai dance (the ritual dance stage) which dance during Kamakura Festival is also related to Minamoto-no-Yoritomo. Besides Yabusame (shooting arrows on horseback) is also nice to watch. While galloping through a riding ground, the archer with dressed up like samurai shoots an arrow at its target. Nodate (Outdoor tea ceremony ) is also a wonderful cultural event.

4. Dohi Festival / warrior procession

Dohi Festival or warrior procession. This parade shows the Kamakura warriors of Minamoto-no-Yoritomo who was a samurai and a hero about 830 years ago for marching to war. The parade starts at Gosho-jinja Shrine at around 10:00 and walk till on Yogawara Station. A long parade with participators dressed up like samurai and their subordinates walk around the town.
Gosho-jinja Shrine is a popular spot as a sacred power place in Yugawara. So nice to visit this shrine during festival. Yugawara is also popular for hot springs. Stay Japanese ryokan and enjoy hot spring!

5. Historic Building Surrounded by Fresh Spring Foliage Open to the Public,
Rinshunkaku / Important Cultural Property in Japan

Sankeien Garden is located at Honmoku, Yokohama. There are buildings in this garden designated as an important cultural property of Japan. Rinshunkaku and Renkain.
Usually you can’t visit inside the buildings. Every year, historic building Rinshunkaku is during Golden week( Japanese holidays) open to the public. Rinshunkaku is a building which is built more than 200 years ago, during Edo period. It is said that this building was Iwa goten(the summer house of Tokugawa family). Renkain is a luxurious building which is built during the Taisho period.
There are more other historical buildings in this Sankeien garden. So you can find charm of old history during walk through this garden. Recently you will find many foreigners walking at this location dressed up in kimono.
