The Japanese Representative Poet Hakushu Kitahara had created a lot of masterpieces. He used to live at Yanaka in Yanesen Area and released many poems in succession in the later 2 years of his life. Hakushu Kitahara is one of the representative Poet of Japan. He had worked on not only a Poem, but also a Nursery Song and a Tanka, and created many masterpieces that is sung down to present days over the generations. In his later years in between 1926 to 1928, he based his house in Yanaka in Yanesen Area and released a lot of works. It is also said that he used to live Yanesen Area Sendagi when he was young. So he is the person deeply associated with Yanesen Area.

Yanesen Area was the place where Hakushu Kitahara had improved his creative sense. There was his house named「Izumikyoukakyukyo-ato, Kitahara Hakushu Kyukyo-ato」where he had created a lot of masterpieces of collection of poems and nursery songs, 「Hatsune-no-michi」where we would had walked while thinking of poem, 「Kanchoro」where Hakushu had discussed with another various men of culture such literary legend as Ougai Mori who had lived Yanesen Area in the same period as Hakushu and owned this Kanchoro as his outside second home.

It was only for 2 years that Hakushu Kitahara had based his house in Yanesen, but he had released a collection of poems「Kindaihukei」and a collection of nursery songs「Karatachinohana」「Zounoko」during that term. Such work place where those collections were created still remains in Yanesen Area. The house itself has already gone and has not maintained as a sightseeing spot, but you can feel the atmosphere of good- old downtown. It’s also good to think of Hakushu Kitahara’s there.

Kanchoro is originally the name of house that the literary legend Ogai Mori had stayed in. The poem party called「Kanchorokakai」used to be regularly held there and many men of culture includes Hakushu Kitahara had attended and discussed with each other. Nowadays such Kanchoro that used to have a deep relation with Hakushu Kitahara has become a sightseeing spot as the Memorial Hall of Ogai Mori. So you should visit there as a place where those 2 men of culture who a deep relationship with Yanesen Area had met each other.

The small alley side of Asakura Chosokan called「Hatsunenomichi」. It is said that there used to be a residence of Hakushu Kitahara facing of this alley. Hakushu Kitahara would had go through this alley several times. This area has a lot of Japanese good-old residences, and popular among tourists as the place where Fuji Mountain could be seen from here when it is sunny day. Nowadays there are some galleries are standing along the alley and creating mysterious atmosphere that quite suitable for Yanesen city.
