Their goal is to make you become a fan of Japan and want to travel to these rural areas. First, let’s start with visiting Marugoto Nippon where you can take a look at, get a taste of and buy various Japanese cultural items.
The shop that you can see fine traditional crafts and food from various rural areas of Japan
The four storied Marugoto Nippon building has a total of fifty stores and restaurants that offer daily goods and food. About a half of the stores are originally from rural areas. In the building there is a space called Osusume Furusato (recommended villages) and you can see and buy the local specialties and fine traditional crafts from seventeen selected cities, towns and villages. As the name suggests (Marugoto Japan means the whole of Japan), this is a very unique place where all of Japan’s 47 prefectures got together to welcome you. It’s not only just a commercial store for shopping but also a sightseeing spot. While being in Asakusa, you would feel like you have traveled to many places in Japan as you see and eat in this building.
Marugoto Nippon is filled with items that display young artists’ fresh take on traditional crafts as well as innovative ideas created from stores that have been in business for generations.
You can find some stores that use only Made in Japan, proudly using Japanese traditional crafting techniques. You can use these items in your daily life, get them as a souvenir or as a gift for a special person.
You might be able to find the next destination for your trip in Japan at Marugoto Nippon.
A secret spot in the building
Check out not only the inside but also the outside of the building. At the recreation space set aside for outdoor events, you can get some fresh air and relax while enjoying the incredible view of Asakusa, the Tokyo Skytree and the five storied pagoda of Sensoji Temple.
Get into the foot bath while wearing your nylons or pants
While still in Tokyo, you can experience a foot bath that contains the same minerals that the Beppu Hot Springs have in the store Oita Onsenza on the second floor. Don’t worry if you’re wearing nylons or pants. You can wear plastic socks and actually stick your feet in the hot water without even getting your clothes wet.
Try local specialty foods that are from all across Japan
If you’re a fan of Japanese food, we recommend to visit the shop Marugoto Nippon KURA. The finest foods, spices, seasonings, souvenirs and Japanese sake collected from all across Japan by connoisseur buyers are waiting for you.
