Asakusa became famously known as the city around the Sensō-ji temple which was built 7 cenury. During Edo period (17c.-19c.), Samurai's salary was paid in rice so that warehouse for rice was set up in Asakusa, because of that many merchants and samurai gathered around Asakusa. Asakusa became the place where the most people, things and gold concentrate in Edo (present Tokyo), developed as a place for wealthy merchants to enjoy, and Edo culture from local people was born. Nowadays though you see big amusement facilities or Tokyo skytree around this area, you still can feel local atmosphere of old days in Tokyo.
