Shibuya can be considered the hub for Japan's youth culture, as it is a sleepless city. The famous Shibuya Scramble Crossing, known as "one of the world's busiest intersections," sees up to 3,000 people crossing at once when the light turns green.

While there are many places catering to young people such as fashion, music, and game centers, Shibuya also has multiple live houses and unique museums that attract adults. Shibuya, now popular as a setting for anime, is a constantly evolving city with ongoing redevelopment projects, allowing you to feel the vibrancy of Japan's changing urban landscape.

Dining in Shibuya

Shibuya is Tokyo's most vibrant downtown area, boasting over 4,000 restaurants. With a wide range of genres from fusion to various styles, you'll have plenty of delicious choices to pick from.

Particularly popular are izakaya, Japanese-style pubs ranging from casual inexpensive spots to stylish ones offering Japanese or Western cuisines. Cafés favored by young people are also abundant, serving quality coffee, tea, and sweets in cozy spaces that invite lingering. Delicious ramen (Japanese noodle soup) shops are plentiful too.

With many restaurants open 24 hours, I will introduce a curated selection of recommended spots open late into the night.

First, I'll introduce the Italian bar "S grosso." In Japan, an Italian bar refers to a place where you can enjoy Italian cuisine and drinks. At "S grosso," you can savor delicious Italian dishes like pasta and pizza at reasonable prices.

A key highlight is their extensive wine and cocktail selection, making it highly recommended for cocktail lovers. Situated near Shibuya Station, it operates almost around the clock from 11:45 am to 4 am Tuesday through Saturday, so you can stay until morning even if you miss the last train. (Note: Monday and Sunday hours are 11:45 am to 11:30 pm)

Recommended dishes include the crab cream pasta, antipasto platter, and potatoes with sour cream. The pizzas are also crispy and delicious.

If you're looking for a bar open late in Shibuya, BAR TRIANGLE Shibuya is a great option, operating daily from 8 pm to 5 am. Despite being a bar, it's also famous for serving homemade tori paitan ramen (chicken broth ramen).

Tori paitan ramen features a rich broth made by simmering chicken for a long time, providing a deeply flavorful soup. Many Japanese crave ramen after drinking alcohol, making this dish popular here.

Oiran is a warmup bar & restaurant located near the area where clubs and live houses are concentrated in Shibuya. The first floor is a standing bar with a DJ, while the second floor has table seating for a more relaxed dining experience.

The red-based exterior and interior design incorporate a Japanese aesthetic, as the space was renovated from an old wooden building. The standing bar on the first floor is especially popular, bustling with night owls until late even on weeknights. Operating hours are 6 pm until late Monday through Saturday, and 6 pm to 1 am on Sundays.

The drink selection is extensive, including beer, wine, cocktails, as well as Japanese sake and shochu. The mojito is recommended, though it may not be available during busy periods. Note that there is a table charge for second-floor seating.
